Freedom Instruments Toolkit
Installation + Social Practice Project, 2017.
Freedom Instruments Toolkit (F.I.T.), it is an installation that allows participants to critically engage the question, “Can we design freedom?” Working from the idea that freedom can’t be designed en masse, F.I.T. offers a peer-to-peer process for interviewing individuals on their own experiences with freedom. The Toolkit instructs interviews using a specialized, custom-printed deck of cards.
This project was developed as part of the inaugural YBCA Fellowship program. It was exhibited in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in 2017.
We recently received a “Citizenship 2.0” grant from YBCA + Neighborland (funded by the NEA) to take this project into the public sphere, so stay tuned for more.
